Resources To effect a successful search and rescue operation it is often necessary to utilise additional resources operated by HM Coastguard, these include dedicated SAR helicopters, rescue boats, and ETV's or Emergency Towing Vessels (tugs). In addition it is often necessary to call upon additional resources operated by outside agencies with the most recognisable of these being the RNLI, Royal National Lifeboat Institute. The Institute has two lifeboats stationed in Torbay, one all weather Severn Class and one Inshore Lifeboat. The Torbay & Berry Head Coastguard units often work alongside the RNLI as you will see on our call out pages. Below is a list (not exhaustive) of some of the other outside agencies we often work with;
