The Teams

All team members are highly trained volunteers who give up their time to aid others in distress. The majority of team members live and work locally, and are able to respond quickly to an emergency.

On receipt of a 999 call, the teams can be paged and respond within minutes of the initial call. This often entails members instantly dropping whatever they are doing and as most members have normal day jobs sympathetic employers and partners is a prerequisite of joining the team.

The Torbay team is based in Paignton, with our Station being located on the harbour side, whilst the Berry Head team has its base at the MCA’s Maritime Rescue Co-ordination Centre (MRCC) in Brixham.

Historically both teams have worked as one, with Berry Head being a satellite of the Torbay Team. In recent months however the Berry Head Team has become a fully fledged Coastguard Rescue Team in its own right.

The teams still have a close working relationship with both being called to larger incidents. We also work together with our flank teams of Teignmouth and Dartmouth responding to incidents at the edge of our sector.
